About

Físl – The Icelandic Contemporary Photography Association – aims to create a forum for discussing and exploring the photographic medium as an art form. The association was founded in 2007 and its members have since participated in numerous exhibitions and events at prominent venues, such as the Icelandic Museum of Photography and LÁ Art Museum, Nordic House and the Reykjavik Art Festival.  In addition , the association has hosted the biannual Reykjavik Photography Festival in collaboration with various museums in Iceland.  In 2008 the National Museum of Iceland published a book featuring the founders’ works, Reflection – Icelandic Contemporary Photography, which included a philosophical text on the work and detailed interviews with the artists and in 2020 Físl vas responsible for publishing the book “Fegurðin er ekki skraut” (Beauty is not an ornament) which contained articles on Icelandic contemporary photography, edited by Æsa Sigurjónsdóttir and Sigrún Alba Sigurðardóttir.
