About

Make Poverty History is a joint campaign sponsored by Oxfam Canada and dozens of other Canadian organizations, which is linked to similar campaigns in over 40 countries around the world.

The four goals of the Make Poverty History campaign are:

  • More and better aid for developing nations
  • Debt cancellation
  • Trade justice
  • End child poverty in Canada

Nearly 300,000 Canadians have endorsed these goals on the Make Poverty History website, and sent emails to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance to press the point.
Oxfam Canada and its supporters have been instrumental in the campaign's success in reaching out to people across the country.

Since the Make Poverty History campaign was launched, world leaders have taken modest steps toward the campaign's goals: G8 leaders cancelled the debts of 18 poor countries, doubled aid to Africa, and promised US$50 billion in new aid money by 2010.
