About

The Central Bank of Cuba is the central bank of Cuba. It was created in 1997 to take over many of the functions of the National Bank of Cuba, which was established on 23 December 1948 and began operations on 27 April 1950. The current president of the bank is Joaquín Alonso Vázquez.

Mission
The mission of the Central Bank of Cuba is to promote, in accordance with its powers, the stability of the purchasing power of the national currency and contribute to the harmonious development of the economy; and to regulate and supervise financial institutions and representative offices of foreign financial institutions that are authorized to be established in the country.

It also regulates and supervises the activities carried out by non-financial entities that provide support services to financial institutions, collection services, payment services, and others that are carried out in the national territory and that are related to financial and foreign exchange activities, and that due to their volume or for reasons of monetary, credit or foreign exchange policy, require prior authorization from the Central Bank of Cuba.
