About
In Papua New Guinea (PNG), the agricultural sector, despite its potential, is mired in challenges that impede the economic growth and prosperity of its majority rural population. Approximately 85% of PNG's agriculture is comprised of smallholders and subsistence farming, with only a marginal 4% of arable land used for commercial purposes. This underutilization of available land highlights a significant inefficiency in the sector. Moreover, PNG's reliance on subsistence farming is a major contributor to the persistent poverty among its rural population. With over 82% of its citizens employed in agriculture, largely in a subsistence capacity, the sector's limitations directly affect the livelihoods of a vast majority of the nation.
The absence of modern infrastructure, such as adequate storage and processing facilities, hampers the ability of farmers to preserve produce quality, access broader markets, and ultimately, secure better prices. This infrastructure gap is starkly evident in the fact that post-harvest losses in PNG can be as high as 50% of actual produce, largely due to inadequate storage and processing facilities. These issues underscore the pressing need for strategic investments and innovations in the agricultural sector, particularly in infrastructural development, to unlock the sector’s full potential and alleviate poverty among PNG's rural communities.
The essence of our solution is to establish a modern agricultural warehouse to enhance local and international market access for export opportunities for local farmers, thereby elevating their livelihoods and driving economic growth. We replace the burden of logistics, marking, storage, and shipping and provide new and improved skills and methods of farming that are climate-conscious, financial stability, and gender equality through economic empowerment.
