COFAC is a teaching cooperative, it belongs to the school education sector, and as for its members, it is a mixed cooperative.

The Cooperative's objective is higher education and, in order to pursue this objective, it will seek to:

Create and manage higher education establishments, offering their own or autonomous courses within the scope of innovative pedagogical experiences, in Portugal, in Portuguese-speaking countries, or in any other countries, whether or not associating with public or private entities for this purpose;
Create and deliver intensive courses for improvement or recycling;
Promote the implementation of professional training activities on its own initiative or in collaboration with individuals or groups, private or public, within the scope of cooperative, scientific and pedagogical training;
Encourage and support the implementation of sociocultural activities and the use of free time;
Collaborate with similar national and international institutions in activities of common interest or provision of services;
Carry out consultancy, economic, financial, technological, scientific, technical and similar activities, independently or in partnership with other entities;
Promote and develop scientific research activities and programs by itself, within the scope of its higher education institutions, or in partnership within the scope of public or private consortia, namely with other higher education institutions or public or private entities whose objective is the development of R&D activities or knowledge transfer.
Carry out veterinary activities, with and without hospitalization, on livestock, companion and large animals, providing all medical, surgical and diagnostic care, including dental and surgical treatments, within the scope of providing services to the academic and surrounding community.
