The ADAPEI of Martinique was born in 1971, wanted and created by a group of parents distraught by an unprecedented questioning: what to do for this child who was leaving “normality”? What can be done to make it recognized by society? What can we do so that he can have a dignified and acceptable life? What could be done to enable him to acquire skills despite this handicap which definitively marked him with the seal of mental or intellectual deficiency? What skills could he acquire anyway? A tough challenge for parents whose only weapon was their desire to do something for their child like no other.
ADAPEI 972 works for anyone with a mental disability. Bring together, help and support families with a disabled child, adolescent or adult and promote the integration of people with disabilities in all areas, including professional and social areas.
