MANYARA SUGAR COMPANY LIMITED

Manyara Sugar Company Limited (MSCL) was incorporated in the year 2003 andhas its Head Office in Arusha and production facilities at Matufa Village, Magugu,Manyara Region. MSCL is the second largest sugar producer in the whole of thenorthernzoneafterTanganyikaPlantationCompanyLimited(TPC)ofKilimanjaro.

The company’s principal activities is processing sugarcane and selling of sugar.MSCL also generates significant revenue from the sales of its by-products; thecompany also engages itself in road transport as an off-season activity andrecently has begun to produce briquettes using sugar cane bagasse for localconsumptionand export.

Mr. Parbat G. Sisodiya (Managing Director), Mr. Devshi H. Odedra (Director), Mr.PratapB.Lakha(Director),andMr.HarishJ. Oghad(Director).

Construction of ManyaraSugarfactorybeganinmid2004andwascompletedbySeptember2005. Equipment used for production initially,was the open pan technologyfrom India which has provento be a very successful. Thewhole work of construction,machinery installation andcommissioning of the plantwas undertaken by a team ofIndian expatriates who hasvastexperienceinthefield.

Intensive production of sugar for Manyara Sugar began in 2007 when Flying CargoTransport Company Limited (a major stakeholder in Manyara) acquired a 2200acre farm and expanded the sugar cane acreage in the farm, thus ensuring thatthere was a sufficient supply of raw material to the factory. The turnover for 2007stoodataroundTZS400,000,000.

Sales figures for 2008 surpassed all the preceding years’ production figures withgross sales indicate a turnover of over TZS 800, 000,000. This was the year inwhich Manyara Sugar began to see an indication of positive growth and theanticipationof afirstprofitin2009.

Since year 2017 to year 2023  Manyara Sugar’s performance has grown exceptionally because of expansions and project to introduce local out growers asan additional source of cane supply. This goal of the out growers project was toincrease the supply of cane and also to elevate the local community by increasinghouseholdincomes aroundtheManyararegion.
