KAS - Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Moldova)

Freedom, justice and solidarity are the guiding principles of the work of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS). The KAS is a political foundation that is close to the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). As co-founder of the CDU and the first German Chancellor, Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967) combined Christian-social, conservative and liberal traditions. His name stands for the democratic reconstruction of Germany, the foreign policy anchoring in a transatlantic community of values, the vision of European unification and the orientation towards the social market economy. His intellectual legacy continues to be both a task and an obligation for us.

Through our European and international cooperation, we are committed to ensuring that people can live self-determined lives in freedom and dignity. We are making a value-based contribution to ensuring that Germany lives up to its growing responsibility in the world.

We want to encourage people to help shape the future in this sense. Through more than 70 offices and projects in over 120 countries worldwide, we make an independent contribution to promoting democracy, the rule of law and the social market economy. In order to ensure peace and freedom, we support ongoing foreign and security policy dialogue as well as exchange between cultures and religions.

For us, the focus is on people in their unique dignity, rights and duties. For us, they form the starting point for social justice, liberal democracy and sustainable economic development. By bringing people together who accept their social responsibility, we develop active networks in politics, business and society. Our political knowledge management improves the chances of making globalization socially just, ecologically sustainable and economically efficient.

We work in partnership with state institutions, parties, civil society organizations and selected elites . Through our goals and values, we want to continue to deepen political cooperation regionally and globally, particularly in development policy. Together with our partners, we contribute to an international order that enables every country to develop in freedom and self-responsibility.

Since 2007, the KAS has started educational and advisory activities in the Republic of Moldova, which were initially carried out through the KAS office in Bucharest. In 2009, the KAS started its own program for the Republic of Moldova and in November 2009 the KAS office in Chisinau was opened.

Our work focuses on measures that use political education and training to get young people interested in political engagement and to qualify them for it. Decentralization and subsidiarity are promoted through the training of local decision-makers from politics and administration. With the help of the Konrad Adenauer Forum on European Politics, which began in 2008, among other things, the KAS is helping to achieve a greater understanding of the EU among political decision-makers and the general public.

The educational measures include conferences, seminars and workshops. Our political consulting activities are aimed in particular at political parties. To promote international dialogue, the KAS invites delegations from the Republic of Moldova to information programs in Germany.

Since 2009, the KAS has also been supporting Moldovan students as part of the Sur-Place scholarship program. The work of the office in Chisinau is complemented by measures from the KAS regional program for promoting the rule of law, based in Bucharest, and the KAS regional program for promoting the media, based in Sofia.
