Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts

The Ministry of iTaukei Affairs (MTA) is responsible for developing policies, facilitating, implementing and monitoring government programmes focused on the governance and well-being of the itaukei people.

In accordance with Legal Notice 43/2014 the Prime Minister and Minister for iTaukei Affairs and Sugar Industry assigned the responsibility for the conduct and regulating of the following written laws to the Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs:

• iTaukei Affairs Act (Cap 120)
• iTaukei Lands Act (Cap 133)
• iTaukei Lands Trust Act (Cap 134)
• iTaukei Development Fund Act (Cap 121)
• iTaukei Trust Fund Act 2004

The Ministry provides the direct link between Government, iTaukei institutions and its administration across the fourteen provinces. Is custodian of official records of intellectual properties significant to its traditional knowledge and expressions of culture, judiciary to land, fishing grounds, chiefly and traditional headship title disputes, facilitates and strengthen its language and culture through advocacy programmes, and administers the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development.
