About

INTIC, IP is the body responsible for regulating, supervising and monitoring the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in our country. Its genesis was the Technical Unit for Implementation of Information Technology Policy (UTIC), created in 2002 to advise the Government on the introduction of ICT, and this statute was in force until 2014, when it was transformed into the current form of a public institute. Initially, it was a two-headed body, exercising implementing and regulatory functions at the same time. But Law 3/2017, of January 9, which establishes the principles, general rules and legal regime for electronic transactions in general, electronic commerce and electronic government in particular, would put an end to the two-headed regime by designating INTIC as the Regulatory Entity of the aforementioned law and referring to the executive the task of creating an electronic government authority, which is INAGE – National Institute of Electronic Government. Thus, INTIC began to deal exclusively with, among other functions: Ensuring a safe environment for the Information Society; Register and license ICT service providers; Establish operating rules for the ICT sector; Monitor compliance with legislation and other standards in the ICT sector; Apply penalties; Promote policies and good practices for the use of ICT.
