Last century, after an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Maxwell R. Weiser decided to pursue his dream of becoming an accountant. Going to night school while he worked as a bookkeeper, Max graduated New York University. He founded M.R. Weiser & Company in 1921 to serve the accounting and business needs of entrepreneurs. Early clients were a laundry, an oil refinery, and a variety of small businesses.

Maintaining a strict work ethic, Max worked six days a week, year-round. He was dedicated to providing the ultimate customer service experience. In fact, it was said that “his golf clubs saw more courses than he did,” since Max was known for cancelling vacations at a moment’s notice to assist with client emergencies.

Max lived into his 90s and was always very proud of his firm’s success. Max’s son Ken went to school to become a mechanical engineer, but did not like it so he switched to Harvard Business School. Ken joined M.R. Weiser & Company in 1949, was a Managing Partner in the 60s, and continues to work here to this very day. Over the years, many individuals have helped to continue and build upon Max’s legacy. In 2002, the firm shortened its name to "Weiser," modernized its logo, and under the watchful eye of Managing Partner Doug Phillips, began a period of growth and expansion.
