About
After Bangladesh became independent, religious affairs activities were first started through the Ministry of Education. Then it was under the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Religion of this ministry. On January 25, 1980, the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh started its journey as a separate ministry. On March 8, 1984, the ministry was renamed the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowment. Later, on January 14, 1985, the name was changed and the ministry was renamed again as the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Since its inception in 1980, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as an independent ministry, has been monitoring and coordinating the activities of the departments including the Islamic Foundation, the Office of the Waqf Administrator, the Hajj Office Dhaka, the Hajj Office, Jeddah/Makkah, the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust, the Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust, the Christian Religious Welfare Trust, and various branches of the ministry, conducting all religious activities of the government.
