Komenda Wojewódzka Państwowej Straży Pożarnej w Szczecinie

The Szczecin firefighting epic began at the beginning of April 1945, when the city was still a Nazi stronghold. At that time, the provincial fire inspector was already operating in the lands that were to become part of Poland, and was responsible for organizing the protection of housing estates and cities against the disaster of fires, which at that time clearly bore the characteristics of sabotage and diversion.

The tasks of the Provincial Fire Service Headquarters at that time included management and supervision of the entire fire protection of the province, in particular:

• matters relating to the organisation of fire brigades and district fire brigades and supervision over their structure and activities,
• matters of professional training in the field of preventive action and fire fighting,
• matters of planning the technical needs of the fire brigade, concerning equipment, supplies, tools and rolling stock,
• matters of supporting fire protection inventions and production, as well as matters of applications for standardization in the field of fire protection,
• cooperation with state and local government authorities, trade unions and social organisations in the field of: fire protection, combating floods and other disasters, rescue and sanitary assistance, physical education, military and vocational training and cultural and educational work.
