About
The Ottobock Global Foundation is coordinating the joint project. "In the first step, the Ottobock plant in Königsee will provide wheelchairs, which we will ship to Beirut. We will then discuss with aid organizations on site to determine the extent to which additional supplies, particularly prosthetics, are needed," says CEO Karsten Ley. The Ottobock Global Foundation has been supporting children and young people in disaster areas since 2015.
As a long-standing partner of Ottobock, the Göttingen-based ZUFALL logistics group is handling the shipping of the wheelchairs. "This tragedy also deeply affects us at ZUFALL, which is why we are very happy to support the relief effort," explains Florian Grewe, Head of Marketing at ZUFALL. His colleague Annette Otte, Head of Sea Freight at the Göttingen branch, adds: "The wheelchairs will be loaded into a container at our logistics center on Siekanger, transported to Hamburg, and shipped from there. Due to the closure of the port of Beirut, shipping will take place via the port of Tripoli, Lebanon, approximately 80 km away. The transit time is expected to be 10 days."
