About

Aconcept, the art of exchange and responsibility

Setting up and growing an architectural practice in Évry-Courcouronnes was the challenge that Frédéric Quevillon set himself when he founded Aconcept some fifteen years ago. It was a bold move, but how can you build the Greater Paris region without living in it? Taking risks and rising to challenges have always been his driving force, and it's clear that success has been on his side: the workshop has grown from two to twenty-five employees, and over the same period, the range of commissions has diversified: school groups, gymnasiums, theatres, housing, 60% of which are public commissions. In 2023, Frédéric was joined by Aurélien Tessier as a partner.

This progress is due first and foremost to the commitment of a team. A commitment to opening up the greater Paris suburbs to an architectural culture that is still too often denied. Ever since he studied at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Malaquais, the Paris region has been Frédéric's playground, and this ambition has never left him. For Aconcept, it's all about bringing popular culture and architecture together, first and foremost by changing the way we look at things and showing a new curiosity about everyday situations that we might think of as ordinary. Then by transforming these situations through the realisation of programmes that are important for community life.

The notion of service is important. Society is expressing demands, and the role of the architect is to respond to them, and to do that, you have to get out of your comfort zone. Aconcept does not prioritise any particular type of programme. We believe that creativity is nourished by constraints and by the richness of the situations in which it is expressed. "The architect must strive to design spaces that take care of users and their well-being", Frédéric sums up.

He is like an actor: the richness of his acting, his ability to take on the most diverse roles, his empathic qualities - in short, his versatility - all require daily training. The agency's work bears witness to this taste for effort and the desire to constantly confront new subjects, new contexts and new commissions.
