About
Beginning of classes in 1949
According to preserved sources, classes began at the school on October 3, 1949, which was intended to help overcome the post-war difficult situation of a shortage of qualified employees in the construction industry.
At the initiative of the branch of the Czechoslovak Construction Works in Havlíčkův Brod, thanks to the advantageous location on the border of three then-current regions and a suitable building, at that time an apprenticeship school, a proposal was accepted to establish a Higher Industrial School in Havlíčkův Brod.
History since 1939
The history of the building itself is several years older, its construction began at the end of 1939 on the site of the demolition of the inn "U slunce". The building did not come into being easily during the turbulent war years, and before its completion it was seized in 1942 for the SS Ambulance School, and in May 1945 a German summary court was held there.
After the war, the building was taken over by the Vocational School. However, since 1951 it has been used for teaching at the Industrial School of Construction, which means that the first two years of teaching were held elsewhere, in the building of the local grammar school. The first students were 23 trained bricklayers and carpenters, 18 of whom passed the school-leaving examination in June 1953, and were thus the first graduates.
Since then, the school has undergone a number of changes in terms of both its construction and its own educational process. A closer look at the entire school building reveals the individual stages of its development through a number of extensions and additions, such as changing rooms, workshops, laboratories, studios, classrooms, a gym with facilities, etc. In 2002, the entire building was given a single roof, as the original one no longer served its purpose. Its shape was influenced by the need to create new spaces for further stages of development.
In 2016, premises for vocational training and practical training were acquired in the form of an extension and a built-in building.
