About
Jangala takes its name from The Calais Jungle refugee camp in northern France, also known officially as Camp de la Lande. The first Pashto-speaking residents of the camp referred to it as Jangal. Both Jangal and Jungle trace their origins to the ancient Sanskrit word Jāṅgala, meaning 'wilderness' or 'the untamed'.
Jangala began as a group of volunteers helping displaced people in the Calais Jungle refugee camp in 2015. It quickly became clear that Wi-Fi was an essential need for people in the camp to get in touch with friends and family, and access online services.
