BAR - Balaton Art Residency / South-Balaton Contemporary Art and Sustainability Foundation

The Balaton Art Residency was mostly focused on the Hungarian artist community in its first years, meanwhile our goal has always been to expand BAR into a well renowned international art residency programme. Between 2021-2023 the BAR has became part of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture Programme, which helped to realize our vision for opening up BAR to international artists as well. Since 2022, the BAR has become an international art residency, and could achieve recognition in the international art community in a short period of time.

The aim of BAR is to provide a high quality professional environment and a relaxed and calm atmosphere for the artists to realise their ideas and artistic work plan. Over the years, we have hosted a growing number of exceptionally talented artists. Each year, an independent professional jury is challenged by a large number of applications, to select the winning ones.

The residency programme and the creative work of the artists are supported by an established, successful contemporary Art Mentor. The Art Mentor is a facilitator and supporter, helping artists realise their own potential and ideas – if the artist wishes to take up the opportunity.

We attach great importance to the high quality of the BAR, both in terms of organisation, execution and education. We would like our artists to have the opportunity to have fun and to express their creativity, but also to meet other artists of the same artistic nature, or even to establish professional contacts that could lead to future collaborations.
