About
The Society for International Development is the oldest and largest membership organization of individuals and institutions concerned with sustainable economic, social and political development. The organization is committed to stimulating dialogue and cooperation on global development issues, enhancing skills, knowledge and understanding among development practitioners, and providing a network for individuals and organizations working in various sectors of international development.
The largest and most active chapter, SID-Washington, is located in Washington, D.C. and is often called the flagship of the organization. SID-Washington is committed to helping shape and invigorate the unfolding discussion on U.S. engagement with the rest of the world.
SID-Washington is comprised of individual and institutional members. Our diverse membership is comprised of consultancy firms, non-profits, faith-based organizations, academia, think-tanks, donors, government, independent consultants and the corporate sector. SID-Washington encourages the active inclusive participation of this constituency.
SID-Washington achieves its mission as a forum for the development community through regional and thematic roundtables, special Chapter events and Institutional Members’ events. The Chapter has more than 20 workgroups and roundtables that convene monthly programs, allowing development practitioners to informally exchange ideas. Most programs are open to members and non-members.
