The Rupani Foundation (RF) has been working in Afghanistan since 2008 with a focus on building prosperous, inclusive, and resilient mountain communities across South and Central Asia, RF is dedicated to eradicating extreme poverty through strong partnerships with local communities, donors, and collaborators to promote sustainable social and economic development.
COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Rupani Foundation (RF) Afghanistan has been a catalyst for community empowerment and sustainable development since 2008. Through innovative programs in climate resilience, early childhood development, youth empowerment, and livelihood enhancement, RF is fostering long-term, transformative change across Afghanistan. Our community-driven development approach is rooted in close collaboration with local communities, government agencies, and international partners, ensuring the implementation of impactful and sustainable development initiatives. Since 2008, we have rehabilitated 322 km of irrigation canals, improved 2,133 hectares of land, and planted over 20 million trees to build ecosystem resilience to the impact of climate change. In parallel to these interventions, we have facilitated the establishment of 4,500 gardens, planted 500,000 fruit trees, and promoted Agri mechanization to boost food security and local economic growth. Moreover, to improve agriculture productivity and local population access to the market, we have constructed 224 km of roads, 10 cold storage facilities, 5 solar irrigation systems, and 5 water reservoirs. Recognizing the vital role of livestock in local livelihoods, RF has provided training and resources to enhance animal productivity. Specifically, we have trained 550 women in dairy and poultry management and supported 320 households with Asmara goats and 250 women with chickens to strengthen their economic resilience. To further diversify income opportunities, RF has made significant investments in skill development, training over 5,000 individuals in IT, business incubation, early childhood development, gems and jewelry, handicrafts, auto mechanics, mobile repair, carpentry, and home appliance electronics. These efforts have led to the establishment of 120 small businesses, driving entrepreneurship and economic growth.
