Centralny Zarząd Służby Więziennej / The Prison Service (SW)

The Prison Service (SW) is a Polish uniformed and armed formation carrying out tasks in the field of execution of imprisonment and temporary detention. The Prison Service reports to the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Poland and has its own organizational structure. The Prison Service carries out its tasks according to the rules set out in the Executive Penal Code.
These include:
performing detention in a manner that secures the correct course of criminal proceedings protection of the public against offenders in prison and detention centers,
conducting social rehabilitation activities against persons sentenced to imprisonment, primarily by organizing work conducive to the acquisition of professional qualifications, teaching and cultural and educational activities,
providing prisoners with imprisonment or detention on a time of observance of their rights, especially humanitarian conditions, respect for dignity, care health and religious needs.
