About

Konung International (KI) is a UK-based specialist international development consultancy, delivering innovative and politically aware governance and public financial management (PFM) programmes globally – including fragile and conflict-affected states. The company was founded in 2013 by Jason Olson, Nameer Al-Hadithi and Mike Francino, who collectively have 70 years of experience working in some of the most challenging development environments in the world. Since its establishment, KI has implemented programmes across Africa, the Middle East and South Asia; mainly for the UK government, including the Department for International Development (DFID) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). We also have worked on Danida, Australia DFAT and EU supported programmes.

We emphasise an approach based on using in-depth detailed analysis of all circumstances surrounding a developmental challenge. This considers not only the local political economy but also what other issues influence and impact the success of reforms – including conflict, culture, livelihoods, environment, gender, demographics and social exclusion. We believe that grasping these essential factors can help the design and implementation of better, more sustainable programmes. This involves ongoing analysis, that is constantly updated to reflect changing circumstances. We rely on local participation, not only in formulating the analysis, but also in taking ownership of it and continuously driving it forward. Our philosophy is that these tools of analysis ought not be reserved for development practitioners alone; but should empower local stakeholders – whether citizens, government, or civil society – to become more effective in their activities.
