About
The Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC) is a Knowledge Management Center organized in 1980 as a graduate school of journalism, founded on the philosophy that communication is a vital development resource to be used to advance the common good.
Today AIJC has a solid record of more than thirty years in the communication field – as a graduate school for communicators and journalists, a center for continuing education in journalism, communication, and knowledge management, and a research and consulting firm advocating policies and implementing programs and projects that address development issues and concerns both at the levels of national decision-making and community-based initiatives.
Research and Development
The Institute's R&D program generates new knowledge and innovations that enrich the content and approach of its academic and professional programs, and provide policy options to government and the private sector.
Research and Development work includes change management, organizational communication (including communication audit), design, implementation and evaluation of communication management systems and development communication programs, and preparation of multimedia materials.
R&D outputs have been integrated in major national development plans and programs in communication media, information and communication technology (ICT), education, environment and sustainable development, children and women, and judicial reform.
The AIJC has contributed to the development of policy options in communication media and ICT. It has conducted policy studies and convened multisectoral communication policy fora on such issues as media ownership, public access, role of government, ICT convergence, and information flow.
Development programs where the Institute served as researcher were funded by the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UN agencies including UNDP, UNICEF and UNESCO, bilateral agencies such as USAID, CIDA and AusAid, and various German foundations.
Executing agencies for these programs include government line agencies (Departments of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources, Education, Social Welfare and Development), Supreme Court, Bureau of Internal Revenue and Bureau of Customs.
Research and Development services have also been provided by AIJC officials and faculty to programs located in other Asian countries such as Sri Lanka, Maldives, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Timor Leste, Myanmar and Pakistan.
Research & Development (R&D) activities are in the following areas:
Communication management
Communication campaign planning, management and evaluation

R&D outputs have been institutionalized in various development plans and programs, a significant contribution to development. Our inputs are reflected in the following documents:
