Croatian Forest Research Institute (Hrvatski Sumarski Institut)

Croatian Forest Research Institute is a public research institution owned by the republic of Croatia. Objectives and tasks of research are part of the National Programme for scientific-research work of Republic of Croatia, and Development Program of “Croatian Forests” ltd, Zagreb (Hrvatske šume d.o.o.).

The fundamental task of the Institute is scientific research in the field of biotechnical sciences in the field of forestry and horticulture. The Institute conducts scientific programs of strategic interest to the Republic of Croatia and, together with other scientific and higher education institutions, establishes a scientific infrastructure of interest for the entire system of scientific activity and higher education. The Laboratory Testing Unit (OLI) is a unique research unit established to address problems, develop new insights and innovations, and provide top-level forestry services. Laboratories are equipped with modern research equipment and provide specific services for analysis of samples of seed and plant material. Extremely professional staff provide and provide service users with international standards.
The Institute's program consists of scientific programs of strategic importance to the Republic of Croatia, contracted scientific projects, collaborative programs, publishing activities related to scientific research, lifelong education, and production programs and transport of horticultural materials. By carrying out top scientific research, the position of the Croatian Forestry Institute as a fundamental national scientific organization in the forestry of the Republic of Croatia as well as an important factor in Southeast Europe.
