Electra SARL

Electra, the Public Electricity and Water Company, was created on April 17, 1982, by Decree-Law No. 37/82.

Three organizations were at the origin and were part of Electra E.P., at the time of its foundation:

the Electricity and Water of Mindelo (EAM), which in turn had been formed by the merger of the Autonomous Board of Water Desalination Facilities (JAIDA) with the Mindelo Power Station (CEM). This merger took place in August 1978, bringing together the organizations that on the island of São Vicente were responsible for the production and distribution of desalinated water and electrical energy.

the Praia Electric Power Station (CEP), an autonomous body in charge of electricity production and distribution in Praia.
the Electricity and Água do Sal (EAS), leaving the transformation carried out in August 1978, of the Municipal Water and Electricity Services, on the island of Sal.
The central objective of the creation of Electra, EP was to respond to the need to form a company with technical and financial capacity to guarantee the continuous supply of water and electricity to the urban centers of the islands of S. Vicente, Sal and the Praia, in economic and security conditions, in order to favor socio-economic development.

With Headquarters and Central Services in Mindelo, the company carried out its operational activity through three Delegations, those of S. Vicente and Sal being responsible for the production, distribution and sale of electricity and desalinated water and that of Praia responsible only for the production and electricity distribution.

In December 1992, Electra entered into a concession contract with Câmara da Boavista and started to ensure the production and distribution of electricity and water, in the town of Sal Rei and in the northern part of the island.
