International Psychoanalytic University Berlin gGmbH - IPU

The IPU is a state-recognized, private university based in Berlin. The institution of the university is the International Psychoanalytic University gGmbH, whose sole shareholder is currently the Foundation for the Promotion of University Psychoanalysis. The latter is a non-profit foundation with legal capacity under civil law. The IPU is financed exclusively from the funds of the charitable foundation and from the tuition fees of the course participants and research third parties. It receives no donations from the public sector.

The start of teaching in 2009 closed a gap created by the one-sided, scientific orientation of academic psychology. IPU degree programs impart psychoanalysis as a science that depicts man as a biological, social, and cultural being and seeks to understand the individual against the background of his or her history and under the influence of the unconscious. All degree programs at IPU are research-related and offer close contact with clinical and pedagogical practice from the first semester.
