Title : Caribbean Greenpreneurs Ecosystem Development
Procurement No. : 100008282
Process : RFP
Description : GGGI for its project in the Caribbean countries of (Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines) is looking to engage a competent firm to support the development of green businesses in the Caribbean region by facilitating a more sustainable regional ecosystem for their support and scale-up through training of Business Support Organizations (BSOs), establishment of a networking platform, and conceptualization of a centre or network to provide ongoing support to BSOs and green businesses in the region beyond the life of the project.

Background
GGGI in partnership with the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is implementing the Eastern Caribbean Green Entrepreneurship Initiative, a 3-year project funded by the Qatar Fund for Development, which supports development of green businesses in the region from six participating OECS countries: Antigua & Barbuda, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
Defined as those which contribute in some way to addressing environmental or social problems, green businesses include but are not limited to: selling products that offset or reduce imports; selling sustainable/renewable energy or energy efficiency products, services, or equipment; farms or food production businesses that use organic or regenerative agriculture techniques; businesses that reduce energy use or use renewable energy, reduce water use, reduce waste (such as recycling businesses or those that source re-used or local materials), or protect or conserve natural landscapes, address social issues (support vulnerable populations like youth, women, the disabled, reduce inequality/poverty etc. ), or increase resilience to climate change (storm-resistant buildings and infrastructure, increased ability recover from storms/flooding, etc.).

The Initiative includes an Incubator and an Accelerator program. The Incubator program targets existing innovative early-stage medium, small, and microenterprises (MSMEs), including women-owned firms, with demonstrated growth potential that are still in pursuit of a scalable and repeatable business model, and citizens with relevant experience and entrepreneurial ambitions. Successful applicants to the Incubator program have access to a 12-week training program, mentoring, coaching and networking opportunities, and a Business Plan Competition where up to 10 participants will win a seed funding grant of USD $10,000 each. The Accelerator program is focused on investment-readiness scale-up of existing, growth-stage green businesses. All businesses within the Accelerator program have the opportunity to access repayable grants in amounts up to USD$50,000, connect with investors through networking and pitching events (Investor Round Table), and learning opportunities. Both programs (Incubator and Accelerator) prioritize women entrepreneurs and green job creation for women, youth and persons with disabilities.

This program has been running since 2021. Two cohorts of the Incubator program and one call for proposals under the Accelerator program have been completed, with one additional of each planned for 2023. GGGI has also partnered with Business Support Organizations (BSOs) in each of the 6 project countries to assist with program implementation of the Incubator and Accelerator.
GGGI has found that while BSOs in the region are generally experienced and knowledgeable in supporting small and medium-sized businesses in the process of registering, starting up, and running businesses, there is a lack of knowledge and awareness related to green businesses and how BSOs can specifically support them to accelerate their growth and environmental/social impacts

Scope of Work & Main activities include;
a) Development and delivery of a virtual training program for BSOs in the region,
b) Development and delivery of guidelines for supporting green entrepreneurs in the Eastern Caribbean region,
c) Establishment of a networking platform, and
d) Development of a recommended structure for a permanent regional innovation centre or network for supporting green entrepreneurship in the region
