The overall objective of the program is to improve the quality of life of the low-income population that has no access or limited access to electricity by expanding and improving electric service coverage. The specific objectives of the project are: (i) to replace diesel generation in rural electricity systems by introducing hybrid systems using renewable energy such as solar, wind or micro hydro generation; and (ii) to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency by providing basic energy services to rural schools, health centres and government buildings in rural areas through the use of solar photovoltaic (PV), solar water heater (SWH) systems and solar chargers with lanterns.
