EU future regulatory framework for Higher Airspace Operations (HAO): Study on civil Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) needs and capabilities in HAO & Study on Meteorology (MET) and space weather services for HAO

Objectives: The EU Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is commissioning two crucial studies under its initiative for a future regulatory framework for Higher Airspace Operations (HAO). The first study examines civil Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) needs at higher altitudes, such as above controlled airspace, to assess the current CNS capabilities and identify potential regulatory amendments. The second study analyzes the impact of meteorological and space weather phenomena on HAO safety. Both studies aim to propose alternative solutions or mitigations and highlight necessary regulatory adaptations to support future high-speed, autonomous operations.
