Update on August 25th, 2016:

In order to achieve the proposed goals, the operation will consist of three main groups of actions: a) Expansion of school facilities and improvement of the existing ones-for pre-primary and primary levels as well as normal schools and institutes around the country through community participation; b) Improvement of teachers’ quality by promoting access of young teachers to initial education training in a tertiary level rather than in high-school, thus extending the required years of study; and c) Encouragement of reading, math and values through the procurement and distribution of books and educational material for schools, teachers and students while also providing training for teachers and monitoring said teachers on the use of these resources. Status: Approved by the Board on 11 December 2015. Estimated total cost: US$ 150 million. Loan amount: US$ 150 million. Executing agency: To be determined.
