Organisations

This project has been developed by the Higher Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry (ISAE). The tender for this project expired on 27 May 2011.
Nuffic has awarded this tender to MDF Training & Consultancy, which has formed a consortium with AERES Group, and MDF Afrique Central.

Project description

ISAE is a public institution established in Busogo in 1989 to train agricultural professionals at advanced level. It has the potential to make a significant contribution to rural economy transformation and development. To become a regional centre of excellence in teaching, research and community services, ISAE needs to accomplish two missions:

  •     train skilled agriculture and livestock engineers;
  •     contribute to the government's poverty alleviation programme and food security through research and technology transfer.

Under the NPT programme, ISAE has improved its educational offer, introduced Competence-Based Learning and developed links with the professional sector. This project aims to consolidate these achievements by:

  •     strengthening ISAE's governance and management capacity;
  •     further improving ISAE’s educational offer by strengthening academic staff and their applied research skills;
  •     improving student employability and further developing industrial linkages and professional outreach.

Agriculture plays an important role in Rwandan culture and history. It is the backbone of the economy employing over 85% of the working population and dominates GDP. The modernisation of agriculture and animal husbandry is one of the pillars of Vision 2020, which promotes the transformation of agriculture into a productive, high-value, market-oriented sector.
