LOAN-2816 BHU: Urban Infrastructure Project - Public hygiene and Awareness programme

A sustainable sanitation behavioral change program for Thimphu Thromde has been implemented under ADB Loan 2258 – Urban Infrastructure Development Project (UIDP).The population in the core town area of Thimphu with an estimated population of 16,000 people was targeted. The program was implemented over one-year period in 2011-12. It is proposed to extend this program to the selected areas of South Thimphu, Phuentsholing and SamdrupJongkhar Municipality (SJM) as part of the Urban Infrastructure Project (UIP) Loan 2816. Lessons learned from the earlier Thimphu project will be built into the new program. The impact of the program will be enhanced access to improved sanitation and improved hygiene practices for all in Thimphu, Phuentsholing and Samdrup JongkharThromdes. The programme aims at town-wide sanitation coverage and environmentally-safe disposal of septic waste.
