About the Funding Agency

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as it is known in English, operates in about 170 countries and territories with the goal of achieving the eradication of poverty and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. The UNDP also helps countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.

UNDP focuses on helping countries build and share solutions in three main areas: sustainable development, democratic governance and peacebuilding, and climate and natural disaster resilience.

The annual Human Development Report, commissioned by the  UNDP, focuses the global debate on key development issues, providing new measurement tools, innovative analysis and often controversial policy proposals. The global Report's analytical framework and inclusive approach carry over into regional, national and local Human Development Reports, also supported by the UNDP.

About the Sectors

Public Sector Governance

Covers initiatives that strengthen public institutions, improve service delivery, and support transparent, accountable, and effective governance systems.

Key areas:
  • Public administration and civil service reform
  • Decentralization and local government strengthening
  • Anti-corruption and integrity frameworks in public bodies
  • Democratic processes, elections, and political institutions

Locations

Kuwait

Kuwait uses hydrocarbon revenues to finance advanced transport, energy, and housing infrastructure, supporting industrial and service sector development. Public-private partnerships and sovereign investment funds play a major role in sustaining infrastructure expansion. The country is implementing economic diversification plans, particularly in logistics, finance, and renewable energy, to reduce reliance on oil. Challenges include ensuring fiscal sustainability, enhancing private sector participation, and maintaining efficiency in long-term infrastructure projects.
