Notice Type: Combined Synopsis/Solicitation
Synopsis:
Added: Apr 23, 2010 1:26 am
The overall goal of this solicitation is to increase food security and reduce poverty in the DRC.
Within that context, the purpose of the award is to achieve broad-based agricultural growth in targeted areas of the DRC. Success in achieving the purpose of the award will be measured according to tangible improvements in three key component areas of intervention.
These three major components are: 1) Increasing agricultural productivity, 2) Improving market efficiency, and 3) Developing the capacity to respond to market opportunities. Interventions will include support to farmer organizations to improve productivity and market access of small-scale producers, particularly women, interventions to make markets more efficient, and support to improve the capacity for smallholders and agri-businesses to respond to market opportunities. The development hypothesis driving this strategy is that by creating a more market-responsive and efficient agriculture sector, with higher productivity that leads to higher profits, higher employment and incomes and increased competitiveness, food security will be enhanced, chronic hunger will be reduced, and under-nutrition will be reduced. The contract awarded through this RFP will directly support USAID/DRC's economic growth program areas, and also support the Global Hunger and Food Security Initiative (GHFS). Additional information on the GHFS can be found at http://www.state.gov/s/globalfoodsecurity/
