Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Phase 1
Preliminary analysis of potential opportunities for the Egyptian Home Textile sector in the international hospitality industry.
Suggest criteria and prioritize target markets with Export Development Potential, based on those criteria, for Egyptian Home Textile Sector in the international hospitality Industry, suggesting the top 3 markets with highest export potential.
For the 3 selected markets with highest export development potential, kindly provide: 1) market situation analysis of the hospitality supplies industry, focusing mainly on the Home Textiles (HT) sector (i.e., sub-products of interest such as bedlinens, towels, rugs, curtains, table cloth and napkins), 2) identity of operators/buyers, 3) size of market, 4) price levels, 5) market trends, 6) key existing suppliers (i.e., competitors), and 7) general buyer requirements.
Work in collaboration with USAID TRADE and the Home Textiles Export Council (HTEC) to develop and present a strategy to develop the HT companies for the hospitality industry, including building a HT consortium, improve or enhance HT consortium performance, depending on the status of the market, etc. Strategy should also include, at minimum, the following: Products of focus, price range, target markets, key target buyers, entry strategy, the consortium branding action plan, etc.
Assist USAID TRADE to outline a workplan to support strategy implementation.
Advise, as needed, in gaining consensus to build the consortium.
Phase 2 (depending on Phase 1 outcomes)
Assuming that there is buy-in and commitment from the home textiles consortium:
Advise the consortium in creating the industry/ sub industry products’ shift to qualify for the required international taste/ standards by finding ways to enhance products, introduce examples of international standards and recommend possible products’ adaptions.
Advise the consortium on the execution of the marketing plan including:
a- Oversee the creation of a powerful brand/sub-brand to enable the industry to compete on an international level.
b- Oversee the creation of all marketing material and tools including brand identity, brochures, other collateral, website, and e-commerce platform if required (With the assistance of a design advertising agency).
c- Advise on brand communication including press releases and interview contents.
d- Advise and plan for the participation in international industry events and Excellence Awards.
e- Assist in planning and establishing sales channels, including the necessary introduction to distributors, hotel operators and other industry stockholders.
Report progress on monthly basis
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience in the international hospitality industry OR Advanced degree with 7+ years of relevant experience.
Good knowledge of the Egyptian home textiles sector, main players, constraints, and opportunities.
Prior experience in developing sectoral strategies and building consortiums Preferably in the Home Textiles sector for the hospitality industry, depending on the status of the market.
Prior experience in outlining a workplan to support strategy implementation.
Demonstrated capabilities in analyzing data.
Robust understanding of the Egyptian economy and the role SMEs play in Egypt.
Proficiency in both verbal and written communication in both English and Arabic.
Project Overview and Role:
Palladium was awarded the USAID/Trade Reform and Development in Egypt (TRADE) activity contract, which has a 5-year timeframe and a ceiling of $36.3 million. The Project will be active throughout Egypt. The goal of the TRADE Activity is to increase Egypt’s international trade by increasing exports from SMEs, and in particular New and Expanding Export-Ready Enterprises (NEEREs). This will be achieved by addressing the constraints that impede the competitiveness of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
In order to achieve the activity’s goal (increasing exports in selected sectors), Palladium must attain the following three Results:
1) Enhanced export capacity of SMEs, in particular New and Expanding Export-Ready Enterprises (NEEREs)in selected sectors,
2) Strengthened public and private trade-support institutions (e.g., trade
associations, export councils, etc.),
3) Improved trade and investment policy, regulatory and institutional environments.
