This Opportunity:

Palladium is hiring a Senior Associate, Communications to provide full time backstopping for project-based strategic communications efforts across the Integrated Health Systems and Services Portfolio, including the USAID funded Mali Keneya Sinsi Wale project and the Malawi Momentum project, among others.

The $45 million USAID funded Mali Keneya Sinsi Wale supports the implementation of the national quality assurance strategy and the government of Mali’s minimum package of primary healthcare services. It also works to combat gender-based violence and to promote the inclusion of marginalized groups. To ensure adequate staffing and quality service delivery, resilient and responsive service, and communications, we increase domestic resources for health and improve resource and logistics management and optimization.

The $52 million USAID funded MOMENTUM Tiyeni project aims to scale up and integrate maternal, neonatal, and child health, reproductive health, family planning, nutrition, cholera, malaria in pregnancy, and COVID-19 services, while emphasizing the importance of quality of care, and respectful care in health service delivery in seven districts across Malawi.

The Senior Associate, Communications will perform a variety of writing, editing, and other support duties including editing technical communications to ensure grammatical and technical accuracy of information; writing content such as news stories; formatting and branding publications and presentations; and serving as the communications point person for specific activities. The Senior Associate, Communications will also provide similar support to other projects, and business development efforts, on an ad hoc basis. This position will report to a home office-based Project Director and will work in close coordination with project communications teams.

Reporting and Supervision:

The role reports to a home office-based Project Director.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide support to the project directors, and chiefs of party of the Mali Keneya Sinsi Wale, the Malawi Momentum Tiyeni projects and other projects across the Integrated Health Systems and Services portfolio on communications-specific requests related to report and brief templates, branding, and photography
Copy and content edit reports, briefs, and other technical products/publications, aligning with the client’s editorial style guide
Collaborate with authors and technical staff on revisions, offering thoughtful feedback
Review final documents to ensure high-quality products
Format publications and presentations, using the project’s Microsoft Word and PowerPoint templates
Ensure documents are accessible for posting on the website (using Adobe Acrobat)
Write news stories, blog posts, and abstracts for the web as needed
Serve as a communications point person for selected technical teams to proactively engage on communications needs, including product development, tracking, and dissemination
Assist with writing and editing project results, including for quarterly and semi-annual reports
Update editorial style guide to reflect changes in best practices relevant to the project’s work
Provide administrative support, including:
Assist with publications tracking, including coordinating with consultant editors, graphic designers, and translators
Assist with posting publications on the web and uploading to the USAID Development Experience Clearinghouse
Coordinate with vendors for printing and production
Curate content, write, and edit a monthly internal update for staff
Coordinate hiring and administration of editing, design, and translation consultants; writing consultant agreements with scopes of work and payment plans; review consultant/vendor invoices for accuracy and process for payment; track contractual agreements; liaise with technical staff on vendor agreements
Execute logistics for events such as internal lunch-and-learns and ad hoc events by scheduling, reserving and both setting and cleaning up meeting rooms, sending invitations, and getting guest counts, ordering, and handling logistics for catering, coordinating speakers and/or guest logistics, and taking and disseminating notes
Regularly update portfolio PowerPoints, website text, and other internal and external communication materials
Respond to requests for project information and capabilities from business development teams
Support business development activities including for upcoming and live bids, such as drafting capability statements, research and writing past-performance statements, collecting, and editing CVs, conducting pipeline research for upcoming bids
Support projects in surge support, which may include project delivery support, research, workplan development, and support to the Technical Leadership team

Key Competencies Required:

Experience working as a technical writer, preferably in the field of international development or health
Experience translating technical documentation into easy to digest content for general audiences
Flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks and work collaboratively with others
Effective organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and work in a high-pressure environment
Able to work independently in a fast-paced organization by prioritizing and managing multiple priorities as well as the ability to manage work and make decisions on their own
Strong attention to detail and follow-through required
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external clients
Fluency and excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French
Strong computer skills in Power Point, Word, and Excel and additional programs for video editing and graphic design
Willingness to take on additional tasks, as requested
Knowledgeable of international development and public health technical concepts
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage work and make decisions on their own, as well as with a team

Professional Expertise/Competencies Preferred:

Knowledge and understanding of USAID programs, branding, communications style and learning frameworks preferred
Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and other meeting/online conferencing tools preferred
International experience in developing country setting (such as Peace Corps service or equivalent) preferred
