Background:
The Swedish Red Cross (SRC) has been present in South Sudan since 2012 and has over the years developed a close cooperation with its National Society partner South Sudan Red Cross (SSRC). Swedish Red Cross engagement in the country aim to support the effective response to address the large scale humanitarian needs, and to build resilience of vulnerable communities in the country. The Swedish Red Cross has over the years developed a very interesting portfolio in South Sudan and we have new exciting opportunities to explore. The ongoing programme portfolio focuses on multi-sector humanitarian response in the country, including addressing urgent needs relating to the ongoing crises in Sudan, and disaster risk reduction and resilience building in crises affected and extremely fragile communities. SRC is engaged in partnership with SSRC with strengthening civil society organizational development as part of the work in local capacity enhancement. SRC is also engaged on a holistic menstrual hygiene programme in schools, to decrease vulnerability among girls in the communities. The SRC work closely with partners from the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement present in South Sudan, and other relevant stakeholders and actors.
Your role in the organization:
As the Country Representative you are part of the Africa regional unit and reports to the SRC Africa Head of Unit, who is based in Stockholm. You are responsible for the management of the SRC programme in South Sudan and for the partnership with the South Sudanese Red Cross Society (SSRC), cooperation and coordination within the Red Cross and red Crescent Movement, relation and partnership with donors and other partners.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Strategy and representation/partnerships
Represent and position SRC in South Sudan, in the RCRC movement (the SSRC, IFRC, ICRC, other NS) and with strategic institutions and other humanitarian and development actors in the country, including donors;
Collaborate closely with relevant departments (e.g.: thematic advisors and support functions) at the SRC headquarter in Stockholm to define and implement SRC strategic direction in South Sudan, resource mobilization, collaboration and partnership, programme quality and development;
Develop and operationalize SRC country strategic direction;
Strategical planning including business intelligence; mapping, forecasting and strategizing how to apply to available funding opportunities.
Programmatic responsibilities
Responsible for the country /program following the operational cycle; i.e, under a technical cooperation approach support the SSRC in planning, implementation, M&E, learning and accountability (reporting and auditing of SRC program);
Provide or ensure provision of relevant technical support to the SSRC for national society/organisational development and quality programming;
Responsible for planning and implementing the cross-cutting areas for good programming.
Head of office and duty of care
Manage the SRC in-country office; including supervising any delegates in country, local seconded staff from the SSRC, and support to visitors; additionally, ensure due diligence process to comply with necessary duties about admin/finance/HR/logistics/procurement/fleet/IT and safety/security management.

The position demands that you have a strong organisational awareness, the ability to work seamlessly with several stakeholders, while taking responsibility for ensuring that SRC works towards our intended objectives in South Sudan. You need to be analytical and able to develop and assess project proposals and reports. You need to be systematic and structured, with the ability to handle high workloads. You meet deadlines and can work with an elevated level of independence.
As a successful candidate you have solid interpersonal, networking and diplomatic skills, you have proven experience in holding similar responsibilities outlined above.
