Position: Urban Transport Planner
We are building a roster of experienced Urban Transport Planners to lead urban mobility and transport planning projects, from network design to stakeholder engagement and capacity-building, with a focus on public transport and non-motorized transport (NMT).

Key Responsibilities

  • Urban mobility planning: Develop comprehensive transport strategies, addressing urban mobility, access, and sustainability goals.
  • Public transport infrastructure: Lead the planning and design of bus lanes, stops, interchanges, and integration with other transport modes.
  • NMT infrastructure: Plan and design pedestrian and cycling networks, street redesign, and parking management solutions to encourage sustainable mobility.
  • Complete streets design: Create cross-sections and street redesigns, focusing on safety, accessibility, and mode shift.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Coordinate consultations, public workshops, and community participation in transport planning to ensure inclusivity and transparency.
  • Capacity-building: Develop training programs for local authorities, focusing on urban mobility planning, design, and operation.
  • ITS integration: Provide guidance on integrating Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in urban transport planning, including bus priority, real-time information, and fare collection (desirable).
  • Donor coordination: Support KfW/IFI-funded projects, ensuring compliance with ESHS requirements and delivering quality-assured outputs.
  • Technical outputs: Prepare technical specifications, feasibility studies, and planning reports. Ensure high-quality project deliverables in line with timelines and budgets.

Candidate Requirements

  • Education: University degree in urban/transport planning, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • General experience: Minimum 10 years in urban and transport planning, with proven experience in public transport planning, street and corridor redesign, and sustainable mobility strategies.
  • Specific experience: Demonstrated track record in:
    • Planning and designing public transport infrastructure (bus lanes, stops, interchanges).
    • Planning and designing non-motorized transport infrastructure (pedestrian areas, cycling networks, street redesign).
    • Stakeholder engagement and public participation in transport planning.
    • Capacity development and organizational strengthening in transport and mobility.
    • Integration of ITS in urban mobility planning (desirable).
  • Donor/ESHS experience: Experience with KfW / IFI-funded projects and familiarity with ESHS compliance in public transport projects.
  • Regional knowledge (asset): Professional experience in Georgia or Eastern Europe & West Asia is a strong asset.
  • Language: Fluency in English (working language).

Assignment Details
Location: Flexible (remote + short missions)
Duration: Project-based; assignments may range from short expert inputs to multi-month roles.
