INTRODUCTION

CES Consulting Engineers Salzgitter GmbH is an independent consulting engineering company with worldwide experience based in Braunschweig, Germany. CES offers solutions to complex multidisciplinary engineering tasks for all civil engineering and related sectors. CES renders services ranging from preliminary investigations to construction supervision and cost controlling, training of the clients' staff, advisory services in the operation and maintenance of installations, as well as the organization and strengthening of public authorities and institutions. CES works mainly in the field of development cooperation and implements infrastructure projects for national high-end clients (ministries and line authorities) funded by international donors.

CES is seeking a motivated graduate to join our team as a Water Engineer Trainee, supporting the implementation of our water infrastructure project in Somaliland. The Project is designed to improve land, water and soil management in selected rural communities with the purpose to use soil and water resources in a more sustainable and climate resilient way. Project intervention measures comprise water harvesting structures, soil and water conservation measures, and comprehensive accompanying measures.

This is a paid trainee position offering direct involvement in real engineering projects, including dams, water harvesting systems, and hydraulic structures. The role combines office-based work in Germany with extended field assignments in Somaliland, including several months in rural project areas under remote and challenging field conditions. You will work closely with experienced engineers and gain practical, hands-on experience in both technical and field-based project work, including site visits, field investigations, and implementation support in remote rural environments. The position requires a high degree of flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work in unfamiliar environments with basic living conditions.

Your Profile

  • ·         Degree in civil engineering, water engineering, hydraulic engineering, or a related field
  • ·         Practical knowledge or strong interest in dam engineering, water harvesting structures, irrigation systems, CAD
  • ·         Strong interest in water infrastructure and hydraulic systems
  • ·         Willingness to work internationally, including extended stays in Somaliland
  • ·         Ability to work independently in unfamiliar and remote environments
  • ·         Fluent in English
  • ·         German language skills are an advantage
  • ·         Previous field, construction site, humanitarian, development cooperation, or international experience in remote environments is considered a strong advantage – but not a precondition.

Your Responsibilities

You will support our project teams in the preparation and implementation of water infrastructure projects, including:

  • ·         Supporting hydraulic and hydrological analyses
  • ·         Assisting in the planning and design of dams and water retention structures
  • ·         Supporting site investigations and field assessments
  • ·         Participating in construction supervision and technical reporting
  • ·         Supporting coordination with local partners and stakeholders

Our Offer

  • ·         A paid trainee position with international field assignments
  • ·         Daily allowances and full coverage of travel costs during missions
  • ·         Hands-on experience in the planning and implementation of water infrastructure projects
  • ·         Exposure to donor-funded projects
  • ·         Close mentoring by experienced international experts
  • ·         A clear professional development path within CES
