Food Technology Specialist – Cuamba Agro-Processing Hub Project (Mozambique)

Duration: Approximately 11 person-months (Design, Construction Supervision and Defects Liability Period)
About the Project
The Cuamba Agro-Processing Hub (APH) is part of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Programme financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Mozambique. The project aims to develop a 300-hectare agro-industrial hub with integrated infrastructure and agro-processing facilities to support agricultural value chains including maize, soybeans, wheat, beans, potatoes, sesame, cotton, poultry and other agricultural products.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Food Processing Technology, Food Engineering, Food Science, Agro-Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 10 years of professional experience in the planning, design, supervision, operation, commissioning or management of medium to large food processing facilities.
Demonstrated experience with agro-processing plants, food manufacturing facilities, storage and processing infrastructure, industrial food production systems, or agro-industrial parks.
Experience in multidisciplinary infrastructure projects financed by international development institutions will be an advantage.
Familiarity with food safety standards, quality assurance systems, processing technologies and agro-industrial value chains.
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
Knowledge of Portuguese will be considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities
The Food Technology Specialist will support the preparation of the Cuamba Agro-Processing Hub Master Plan and detailed engineering design, with particular focus on agro-processing facilities and food value chains. Responsibilities will include:
Assessment of agro-processing requirements for priority agricultural value chains;
Definition of processing infrastructure needs and technical requirements;
Input into the conceptual Master Plan and industrial zoning strategy;
Review of processing technologies and production systems;
Advice on food safety, quality assurance and operational requirements;
Contribution to detailed engineering design of agro-processing facilities;
Review of layouts, workflows and utility requirements for processing plants;
Support during construction supervision, commissioning and operational readiness phases;
Coordination with architects, engineers and infrastructure specialists.
