Description

Reducing Emission from Deforestation and Forest Degradation and associated activities, shortly known as REDD+ is the priority program of Nepal's forestry sector. The REDD Implementation Center under the Ministry of Forests and Environment (MOFE)  is the lead entity  to carry out readiness activities, implement emission reduction programs  and demonstrate results related to REDD+ in Nepal. Nepal's REDD+ readiness, process and results are guided by a number of frameworks including but are not limited to the Constitution of Nepal (2015), Forest Policy (2015), Forestry Sector Strategy (2016), Nationally Determined Contribution (2016), National REDD+ Strategy (2018), Readiness Preparation Proposal (2010) and  associated other documents. The vision of Nepal National REDD+ Strategy is  the 'enhanced carbon and non-carbon benefits of forest ecosystems contributing  to the prosperity of the people of Nepal'.  This vision will be achieved by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and by undertaking sustainable management of forests aligning with effective fair and equitable benefit sharing with indigenous peoples, local communities, women, Dalits, Madhesis, poor and other marginalized groups, while adopting appropriate social and environmental safeguards. .
