The State Office for Internal Administration is a senior state authority within the portfolio of the Ministry of the Interior, Building and Digitization of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania. The (main) seat of the State Office for Internal Administration is in the state capital of Schwerin. The state office takes on the central procurement for the entire state administration and also houses the central printing works of the state government. Since July 12, 2010, it has also been responsible for war graves and abandoned Jewish cemeteries. It also deals with matters relating to titles, medals, decorations and the honoring of old age and marriage anniversaries.
The authority is also the state's top surveying and geoinformation authority responsible for official surveying. It collects the basic geodata for the state area and verifies it nationwide. The state office also assumes the role of the state statistical office and as such is the largest information service provider in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The state returning officer is also located in the state office.
As the central immigration authority of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the state office is responsible, among other things, for all measures within the framework of the regulations on foreigners and asylum law regarding foreigners who live in reception facilities of the state or are obliged to do so.
