Food and Veterinary Agency

The Food and Veterinary Agency develops and implements the policies of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, for the protection of animal and plant health. Through them and border control, it aims to preserve public health by guaranteeing safe food. AUV gives responsibility for its work to the Government of Kosovo. The Government of Kosovo has delegated the AUV as the authority for control in the field of safety, hygiene, tracking and labeling of food and animal feed in the processing, packaging, distribution, wholesale and retail areas according to national legislation and harmonized legislation of EU.

OBJECTIVES: 

• ensure monitoring and control of infectious diseases of animals, zoonoses and animal welfare, the elimination of disease outbreaks, the application of all necessary biological measures to prevent the introduction of infectious diseases and zoonoses in the territory of Kosovo.
• In the field of plant protection, AUV is responsible for ensuring an effective control system of harmful organisms for plants and plant products in compliance with phytosanitary standards. The undertaking of phytosanitary actions aimed at preventive measures to prevent the entry, concentration and spread of quarantine diseases and pests of plants and plant products and other facilities in the Republic of Kosovo.
• adequately guarantee the safety of food in all stages of handling to protect the interests of consumers. To ensure that the food placed on the market as well as that which is dedicated for export is in accordance with the requirements of safety, labeling and other requirements of mandatory, created by legislation.
