Mr. Van Steenwyk has over 35 years of SME agribusiness value chain development project design, assessment and management work within the Asia-Pacific region. He has completed ADB AOTA and PPTA missions in Vanuatu, Indonesia, Timor-Leste, PRC, Mongolia, Vietnam, Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. His work illustrates a broad knowledge of market driven enterprise development, business development services and improved access to finance. This includes extensive work with, and conducting value chain assessment of, farmers, consumers, retail chains, agro-processing industries, exporters of fruits, vegetable and spices and value added products; developing recommendations to remove constraints to adoption of appropriate high value crops and value added products; identifying areas for public sector policy reform to support accelerated agribusiness sector growth; reviewing the structure and effectiveness of existing farmer organizations in major product categories and recommending suitable farmer organization models; and assessing demand for high value crops and value added products in domestic and international markets. During the course of his career he has conducted and managed over 200 pre-investment and feasibility studies related to new agro-food value chain businesses.
