Michael Crane is an environmental economist with 25 years of international and domestic work experience advising national government agencies and international organizations on how to create sustainable jobs while conserving biodiversity, water, and forest resources. His range of expertise includes: environmental benefit/cost analysis; assessments of environmental damages; Economic Impact Analysis of environmental changes (damages or improvements); Total Economic Valuations (TEV); Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES); climate change adaptation; sustainable ecotourism; Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs); environmental governance and capacity building in these topics. He has applied these techniques to preserving coastal and marine resources throughout the world; building conservation plans through PES enterprises; writing policies and economic incentives for biodiversity protection; structuring institutional frameworks for mainstreaming conservation into national budgeting processes; and creating result-based monitoring and evaluation protocols to ensure implementation of policies.
