About

Athanasios Gkoutzikas has a 24-year professional record in the transport planning and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) sector. He holds a BEng in Civil Engineering, MSC/DIC in Transport Studies, and an MBA degree with a specialization in logistics and transport. During his professional career, in the context of diverse, demanding, and complex projects, he has worked efficiently and effectively with various project teams in different working environments. His professional record relates mainly to transport and ITS engineering sector with a specialty in the following sectors: (i) planning, design and deployment of ITS projects, (ii) preparation of national and urban transport strategic planning studies, (iii) planning of transport services, (iv) transport demand forecasts via advanced transport modelling techniques, (v) investment appraisals by using advanced criteria methods (CBA, FA, MCA) for transport infrastructure, services and systems and (vi) development of methodologies and organization of transport demand surveys on various fields.

Over the years, significant experience has been gained in the project management of EU-funded transport and ITS projects. In addition, technical support to various Public Authorities has been provided: (i) for the preparation of Tender Documents, and (ii) for technical proposals seeking EU funding from available EU programmes. As a transport engineer and/ or ITS Consultant, he participated in projects implemented in various countries such as Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Malta, Albania, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Uganda, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Serbia. Finally, as a transport planner and an ITS expert, he provided services for the evaluation of EU projects in the framework of Horizon 2020 and CEF programmes.

  • From 2013 - present, Freelance with a role as Project Manager,  Senior transport planner and ITS consultant in various projects in various countries, such as Turkey, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Malta, Albania, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Uganda, Georgia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Romania, Serbia as well as Greece. 

  • From 2008 to 2015, Project Manager at TREDIT SA, as Senior Transport & ITS Consultant in many EU-funded projects in Greece and Cyprus.

  • From 2002 to 2008, Transport Modeller and Transport Engineer at SALFO and on numerous transport planning projects in Greece.
