Increasing walking and cycling: to reap health benefits, emission reductions and integrate active mobility and micro-mobility devices, with smart technologies and infrastructure

Objectives: The Horizon Europe program, aimed at bolstering the EU's global scientific competitiveness, is structured into three main pillars and an additional part focusing on widening participation and strengthening the European Research Area (ERA). The Excellent Science pillar increases competitiveness through support for frontier research and research infrastructures. The Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness pillar addresses societal challenges and reinforces industrial capacities. The Innovative Europe pillar promotes market-creating innovations via the European Innovation Council. Additionally, it supports the European Defence Fund and complements the Euratom Research and Training Programme with a substantial budget of around €95.5 billion for 2021-2027. The Horizon Europe strategic plan connects EU policy priorities to activities, ensuring investments in research and innovation effectively address global challenges and harness industrial competitiveness.
