The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) is a private diplomacy organisation founded on the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence. Its mission is to help prevent, mitigate, and resolve armed conflict through dialogue and mediation. HD is currently looking for a:
Project Manager – Syria
Based in the Middle East region or in Geneva
Starting date: ASAP

Reporting to the Regional Director, the Project Manager will have the following responsibilities:
• Implement and manage projects and monitor compliance with HD’s strategic framework;
• Identify, plan and develop mediation activities;
• Lead and manage a 10-15 person team, both staff and consultants;
• Build and maintain cohesion and coherence between the different lines of work and within the team;
• Work closely with the Project Officer (PO), Project Associate (PA), Finance and Admin Officer to prepare donor proposals, budgets, forecasts;
• Draft and coordinate donor reporting with the support of the PO and PA.
• Fundraise and regularly brief donors;
• Assist the Regional Director in developing and adjusting project strategy in Syria and the MENA region;
• Develop and maintain contacts and relationship with the relevant local interlocutors, institutions and countries;
• Represent HD in policy discussions in the field of mediation and in interaction with partner institutions;
• Conduct field visits to the region as needed/useful and maintain a good working knowledge of the facts on the ground.
• Ensure a smooth communication and coordination between the field project teams and Geneva HQ.
The successful candidate should have:
• A Master’s degree or equivalent (international relations, politics, law, humanitarian affairs or mediation);
• At least 10 years of relevant experience with issues related to peace/mediation processes and conflict resolution;
• Excellent team management skills;
• Fluency in English (compulsory) and fluency in Arabic (a strong asset);
• Strong knowledge of Syria and regional dynamics and experience of working in the MENA region;
• Excellent analytical, writing and editing skills.
Personality: the successful candidate should be enthusiastic, capable of multi-tasking and of working on several projects simultaneously. S/he must be flexible, able to take initiative and to work under tight deadlines and in a high pressure environment. S/he must have strong social and communication skills, and the ability to set priorities for the team.
