Team Leader/ Director

EURO-FUNDING Multilateral Projects S.L. is looking for a Team Leader/Director for the following WB financed project: Technical Services Provider for the Program for Suriname’s Growth Enterprises (SURGE).

SURGE will be an MEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs) program managed by the MEA PIU (Project Implementation Unit) for the Suriname Competitiveness and Sector Diversification Project; the group of experts will support MEA in the day to day implementation to ensure a market-driven and commercially oriented approach to supporting growth enterprises.

We are looking for a Team Leader/ Director with following qualifications and areas of responsibility:

The most significant areas of responsibility of the Director is to:

1) lead the team, thus understanding who should do what and motivate and guide the team;

2) to help support SURGE beneficiaries;

3) to build strategic partnerships that enable SURGE to achieve performance targets, and

4) to build relationships and work with potential and current clients.

The Director will be responsible to the beneficiary MSMEs in terms of helping them grow their business, to beneficiary value chains in increasing their competitiveness, to the PIU in terms of managing SURGE, and to other stakeholders who invest in SURGE beneficiaries.

SURGE will be headed by a person who is a dynamic leader of appropriate stature. The Director should have had significant profit and loss responsibility, whilst leading a team comprising sales, operations, and finance functions. Experience coaching MSMEs and in either the agro-processing or tourism sectors specifically is desirable. Also, the Director should have the following qualifications:

• Masters’ degree in Business Administration/Management/Agribusiness/ Entrepreneurship/Tourism Management;
• Private sector experience and entrepreneurial orientation including business management, leadership experience; experience in banking and finance is a plus;
• Experience in working directly on small business development projects;
• Minimum of ten years of middle to senior management experience with demonstrated leadership and day-to-day management capabilities;
• Evidence of developing effective teams, facilitation and negotiation skills, brokering partnerships;
• Confidence, passion, and enthusiasm for the growth of MSMEs;
• Knowledge of the Surinamese economy is ideal, including the agribusiness and/or tourism market, including key stakeholders and the issues faced by MSMEs;
• Demonstrated ability to work with a range of stakeholders, including small businesses, investors, retailers, wholesalers, and government;
• High tolerance for ambiguity and flexibility;
• Credibility with manufacturing and processing clients, investors, and stakeholders.

Candidates will be evaluated on the following basis:

1) General qualifications (general education, training, and experience): [weight 20 %]
2) Adequacy for the Assignment (relevant education, training, experience in the sector/similar assignments): [weight 70%]
3) Relevant experience in the region (working level fluency in local language(s)/knowledge of local culture or administrative system, government organization, etc.): [weight 10 %]

Notes:

1. The Team Leader must be independent and free from conflict of interest in the responsibilities they take on.
2. Expected start date of the project: November 2022, with a duration of 36 months.
