Description

Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
UN Women has been working in Lebanon since 2015 to address the economic and social needs of refugees and host communities in close cooperation with the Government of Lebanon. UN Women Lebanon works on issues of women’s political participation, peace and security, economic empowerment and changing social norms around gender and masculinities.

Through its programmes, UN Women supports the advancement of women in politics, leadership positions, peace and reconciliation through i) the implementation, reporting, monitoring and evaluation of progress and results of the National Action Plan (NAP) 1325; ii) removing discrimination against women in the law; iii) promoting women’s role and leadership in peace building, recovery, transitional justice and mediation efforts; and iv) monitoring and documentation of women’s rights and gender equality in times of conflicts and crisis and v) creating dialogue spaces for women civil society actors, women in politics and women peacebuilders to strengthen and unify their voice.

Reporting to the Programme Management Specialist, the Coordination officer provides programme support to the effective implementation of UN Women programmes in the Lebanon CO by contributing to the programme design, formulation, implementation, and evaluation. The Coordination officer supports the delivery of UN Women programmes mainly by supporting strengthening and managing dialogue initiatives and spaces, improving knowledge management, ensuring coherence across programme activities, and supporting learning, reporting and resource mobilization. The Coordination officer works in close collaboration with the UN Women team, political actors, multi and bi-lateral donors and civil society ensuring successful UN Women programme implementation under this portfolio.


Duties and Responsibilities

Contribute technically to the development of programme strategies in the area of Women Peace and Security

Provide technical inputs to the design and formulation of programme/ project proposals and initiatives related to Women Peace and Security

Provide technical support to the implementation of the Women Peace and Security programme

Provide inputs to the annual workplan as required;
Coordinate and monitor the implementation of programme activities;
Maintain an up-to-date action plan and calendar of activities;
Create and maintain a filing and archiving system for the project;
Organize, document and contribute to learning events, dialogue sessions, and meetings with actors, in both Arabic and English.
Maintain communication with project beneficiaries through mailing lists, meetings, and other ways of communication.

Provide support to the coordination and management of coalitions/networks and dialogue spaces created by UN Women

Support coordination of dialogue initiatives and women coalitions/networks in close cooperation with UN Women team
Document dialogue processes the work of coalitions/networks and increase their visibility as agreed by UN Women management
Liaise on regular basis with actors involved in dialogue and coalitions/networks including political actors, civil society, women peacebuilders and donors.
Support the expansion of dialogue work and coalition/network building

Provide technical inputs to the monitoring and reporting of the programme/ project

Monitor progress on programme activity, results and indicators;
Produce briefs on progress of the projects to be shared with the wider team, the donor and the targeted groups;
Provide inputs to quarterly reports, donor reports and other reports on outputs and outcomes’ level.
Provide input to background reports and briefs on inter-agency coordination related activities.

Contribute to building partnerships and resource mobilization strategies

Provide inputs to resource mobilization strategies; analyze and maintain information and databases;
Provide inputs to relevant documentation such as project summaries, conference papers, briefing notes, speeches, and donor profiles.

Provide inputs to advocacy, knowledge building and communication efforts

Provide technical inputs to background documents, briefs and presentations related to Women Peace and Security;
Coordinate and support the organization of advocacy activities and campaigns events, trainings, workshops and knowledge products;
Provide inputs to the development of knowledge management products on Women Peace

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, diplomacy, human rights, gender/women’s studies, international development, law, or a related field is required
A first-level university degree in combination with three additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

At least 3 years of relevant work experience in development programme/project implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, and donor reporting;
Experience in the Women Peace and Security agenda and Politics is an asset;
Experience coordinating and liaising with political actors and donors is an asset
Experience working with the UN is an asset
Computer skills, statistics, internet communication and command of MS Office

Language Requirements:

Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required.
Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset
